I was taught never to let anything go to waste. Raised by parents of the veteran generation, my father — the engineer — drilled it in early: everything can be fixed. It may not come out factory-spec, but it will be corrected and functional. MacGyver was the role model. Long before repurposing was a lifestyle brand, it was just how things got done — tires became fence posts, my old pool deck became a rocking horse, construction bins became raw material.
I grew up on Stone Mountain, came from a conservative Southern background, and somewhere along the way picked up a seminary minor in Race Justice and Reconciliation, ran foster homes, worked with children's shelters, and jumped on recycling before it was remotely cool. In 2020, my wife Melody and I bought four acres and a creek in Lovejoy and started building something real. The bees came first. Then the garden. Then everything else.
Community honey. That's what the neighbors started calling it after a storm took the hives down and the whole street showed up. I'm Grampie. That's the title I'm most proud of. And this is still community honey.
Beekeeping and what it actually costs. Healthcare advocacy from the inside. What it looks like to be an actor in Atlanta. Homestead dispatches from four acres and a creek in Lovejoy. The kind of content that doesn't fit anywhere else — so it lives here.
